FAO shares the concern over the harmful effects of tobacco smoking and has undertaken a project involving a number of studies on various aspects of the global tobacco economy. This is the second study to be published from this FAO project "Tobacco Supply, Demand and Trade by 2010: Policy Options and Adjustment." This volumes looks into the tobacco economies of a few selected countries. The studies focus particularly on the potential effects, if any, that reductions in global demand might have on the economic conditions, earnings and food security of farming communities in developing countries that are particularly dependent on tobacco production for their livelihood.
