Guidelines for Remediation Strategies to Reduce the Radiological Consequences of Environmental Contamination

There are many areas around the world contaminated with radionuclides. Some of these sites were contaminated by nuclear testing or radiation accidents, while others became contaminated as a result of inadequate waste disposal practices. Contamination at such sites may present a risk to humans and the environment and may require remediation. This technical report summarizes world experience on management options for remediation of contaminated terrestrial and freshwater environments. The report also provides guideline about sustainable remediation strategies based on the experience and lessons learned following pervious severe radiation accidents and other existing situations.
