In his second volume of the biography of Miguel de Cervantes, professor Jos Manuel Luca Megas places Cervantes on his return from captivity in Algiers, making a living as an officer of the court. He acted as a discreet messenger in Oran, a tax collector, a judge of his Majesty, and, sometimes a writer
