Based on parameters of input-oriented democracy, the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany displays normative deficits. Not only this theoretical perspective led Sebastian Hadamitzky to doubt the common criteria of democratic legitimacy but, as his analysis uncovers, these criteria also cannot be confirmed empirically. As particular focal points liberal democracy, responsivity and accountability have not been put into effect. "Input-oriented representation" aims to resolve these deficits. The study centres on the inputs into political processes and supposes that political conduct for the common good is based on the direct communication between representatives and citizens. Engaging with current questions of political theory Hadamitzky proposes comprehensive reforms for the maximisation of democratic quality. The work addresses both scholars and students of political sciences as well as practitioners with political responsibility.
