ACPDT books are produced through a community publishing process, which combines current thinking in development studies with creative and practical knowledge of rural communities. The books are based on and developed through participatory methods. This book was developed together with community members active in study circles in various parts of Zimbabwe. It gives communities living in remote areas, and most affected by poverty and underdevelopment, a basic understanding of study circles, how they work, and how they can be used as a tool for local, social and economic development. It can be read by small groups, and applies participatory methods. A framework for discussion follows each chapter to allow participants to consolidate and expand upon the material. Some examples of topics are: study circles and economic projects; the development and role of a study circle leader; ground rules and dialogue; choosing texts; and different methods of work and exercises.
