As a young intern in the 1930s, Frank Turnbull sutured incisions with black silk thread and patched skulls with pieces of Ivory Soap boxes. Operating on the Frontier takes the reader from Turnbull's Vancouver boyhood in the early 1900s to his sixty-year career as a neurosurgeon and medical advisor.
