Out of the Fire : A Calaveras Anthology

An anthology of over 50 writers and photographers representing the narrative of a community's trial by fire. The Butte Fire of 2015 devastated the West Calaveras County communities of Mokelumne Hill, San Andreas, Calaveritas, part of Glencoe, and most seriously, Mountain Ranch. The book chronicles some of the stories, poems, essays, and impressions in the aftermath--a year and a half later. It's a testimony to the resilience of community members who still struggle with uncertainty today, with very few burned out residents returning to their properties. The photographs narrate the poignancy and power of the fire and the renewal efforts of nature to restore her vistas. Most of the damage will not be repaired within the lifetimes of the residents. It may be a couple of generations before new trees can replace the once-majestic forested haven.
