School in The 1790s : Some Firsthand Accounts

Here is a selection of firsthand accounts by several prominent mid-19th century people describing their experiences as students and/or as teachers in the 1790s. The articles are taken from a series of letters published in the 1860s that were meant to document the progress that education had made up to that time.
