After running away at thirteen her life begins to spiral downward. She attempts suicide at age 15. At the age of 16, she starts promiscuous behavior that result in a teen pregnancy. Ethel emancipates from the DC Foster Care System, homeless with her young son. Her first job is $4.50 an hour at Potomac Job Corps. Her first apartment is in a crime ridden area in SE.
