Seniors are my passion. Until I was in my mid-60s, most of my interaction was with children, as a mother, and with young people, first as an adviser and then as a teacher. For twelve years I was one of my church's senior high advisers; for ten years, a public school teacher; and for five, instructor of post high school vocational students. Later as Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Haines City, Florida, I broadened my horizons by planning programs and volunteer opportunities for senior adults as well. Many in the congregation were over 50 years old and good mentors. Delving more deeply into the subject of the aging process, I shared my findings with friends and neighbors. More than 100 of them tested the materials for this study in small group discussions over a period of several years. They were enthusiastic about what they learned together, always wanting more. This helped to convince and assure me there must be others out there ready to explore the same subjects. My challenge was to find them. Hopefully you who wrestle with reinventing yourself after retirement will begin with the question "Who am I?" and discover your new identity apart from family, business and community responsibility. Through this study, I pray you will discover the excitement and fulfillment that can be yours during the last decades of your life.
