Contemporary Spanish Poetry : The Word and the World

Edited by CECILE WEST-SETTLE and SYLVIA SHERNO The essays in this volume honor the contributions of Andrew P. Debicki to the field of poetry criticism. They are dedicated to various aspects of Spanish lyric poetry from the post-Civil War period to the voices of the most recent Spanish poets. The essays are tied by a unifying principle: poetry's impulse to create a self-contained reality, and the competing impulse to remain vitally connected to the world. Cecile West-Settle teaches in the Department of Romance Languages at Washington and Lee University. Sylvia Sherno is a lecturer in the UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
