This work provides the tools through which informed care can be delivered to patients on the initial evaluation within the surgical unit. The core of the text consists of the 77 most common or important surgical on-call problems. Each on-call problem covers immediate question, differential diagnosis, key laboratory tests, medications, fluids and electrolytes, nutrition, ventilator management, blood component therapy, and perioperative complications. In this edition, the on-call problems are thoroughly revised and the commonly-used medications chapter is completely updated and includes new drugs.
