Pastoral and Politics in the Old South

Covering the period 1810 to 1861, this study explores the process by which the South was created as a concept in American culture through five biographical-critical sketches of John Taylor, John Randolph, George Fitzhugh, Nathaniel Beverley Tucker and Joseph Glover Baldwin.
